Frequently Asked Questions

What is postpartum coaching, and how is it different from therapy?

Postpartum coaching is a supportive, personalized service that helps new mothers navigate the emotional, physical, and practical challenges of early motherhood. While therapy often focuses on diagnosing and treating mental health conditions, postpartum coaching is not clinical—it’s holistic, forward-focused, and grounded in real-life support.

As a postpartum coach, I help you build confidence, establish healthy routines, support your mental wellness, and provide expert guidance on newborn care, feeding, and sleep shaping. Together, we create a safe space where you feel seen, heard, and held—so you can thrive, not just survive, in the fourth trimester and beyond.

Do I need postpartum coaching if I already have a doula or therapist?

With The Held Mama coaching program, you may not need multiple professionals—because I offer a holistic, all-in-one approach.

As a certified postpartum doula, newborn care specialist, and postpartum coach, I bring the expertise of emotional support, newborn care, feeding and lactation guidance, sleep shaping, and routine building into one cohesive container. I hold space for your emotions like a coach, offer hands-on newborn education like a doula, and support your healing and confidence like a trusted mentor.

You don’t have to coordinate multiple providers—I meet you where you are and support your whole journey, mind, body, and baby.

Can postpartum coaching help with anxiety and mood swings?

Yes. What you’re feeling is incredibly common—and you’re not alone.

The transition into motherhood is profound. Even with a supportive partner or family, many new moms feel anxious, isolated, or unsure of themselves in those early weeks. Between sleep deprivation, hormone shifts, feeding challenges, and identity changes, it’s no wonder so many mothers feel overwhelmed.

That’s exactly why The Held Mama coaching program exists. You deserve consistent, compassionate support from someone who understands what you’re going through—emotionally, physically, and practically. Together, we’ll create routines that work for you, support your nervous system, and help you feel confident in caring for your baby and yourself.

You’re not failing—you just need to be held, too.

What is sleep shaping, and when should I start?

Sleep shaping is the gentle, developmentally appropriate process of helping your baby build healthy sleep habits—without strict schedules or cry-it-out methods.

Unlike sleep training, which typically begins around 4–6 months, sleep shaping can start from the very beginning. It involves understanding your baby’s natural rhythms, creating calming sleep routines, supporting day-night differentiation, and helping your baby learn to fall asleep more easily and restfully over time.

In The Held Mama coaching program, I guide you step-by-step through sleep shaping that works with your baby’s cues, not against them—so both you and your baby can get the rest you need, without added stress or pressure.

Is the Held Mama program virtual or in-person?

The Held Mama program is fully virtual, so you can receive expert postpartum support from the comfort of your own home—no matter where you live.

Sessions are conducted via video call, making it easy to show me your baby’s sleep space, feeding setup, or anything else you’d like guidance on in real time. You’ll also have access to in-between support (via Voxer or email), so you’re never left figuring things out alone.

Whether you're in your pajamas or rocking your baby to sleep, you're supported—deeply, gently, and consistently.

What if I need help in between sessions?

ou're not alone between calls—support doesn’t stop when the session ends.

With The Held Mama program, you get direct access to me in between sessions via Voxer (a voice and text messaging app), so you can reach out when questions or worries pop up—whether it's about sleep, feeding, emotions, or anything else.

Need to troubleshoot a nap, vent about your day, or double-check something? I’m just a message away. This continuous support is what makes The Held Mama feel like a lifeline, not just another appointment.

Do you work with first-time moms, second-time moms, or both?

Both! And moms of any family size. First-time moms often come to me feeling unsure, overwhelmed, and craving guidance. Together, we build confidence, establish healthy routines, and navigate all the “firsts” with support and care.

Second- or third-time moms may need help balancing baby care with older siblings, managing new challenges like different feeding or sleep needs, or simply want someone to hold them while they hold everyone else.

Whether it’s your first baby or your fifth, The Held Mama program meets you where you are—with personalized, non-judgmental support every step of the way.
