Why Every New Mom Deserves a Postpartum Coach (And How It Can Change Everything)

By Julia Cavanaugh

Becoming a mother is one of the most profound transitions in a woman’s life. And yet, for most new moms, the support simply isn’t there. We prepare for labor, we decorate the nursery—but what about after birth?

That’s where I come in.

Hi, I’m Julia—certified postpartum doula, birth doula, and holistic newborn care specialist with over 17 years of experience. I’ve supported hundreds of families through the intensity of the fourth trimester and beyond. I’ve worked with high-profile clients, new moms navigating postpartum depression, and families simply trying to find their rhythm again.

I created The Held Mama, my signature postpartum coaching program, because I saw a gap in care. Too many mothers were feeling overwhelmed, anxious, and disconnected—but didn’t know who to turn to.

What Is a Postpartum Coach?

A postpartum coach is not a therapist, but a deeply informed guide and support person who walks alongside you through the early weeks and months of motherhood. My work combines evidence-based newborn care, nervous system regulation, emotional wellness, somatic support, and practical tools for daily life.

Whether you’re struggling with anxiety, breastfeeding challenges, relationship changes, sleep deprivation, or simply feeling like yourself again, coaching gives you consistent, personalized support you can count on.

Why My Approach Is Different

  • Trauma-Informed & Holistic: I understand that motherhood can bring up deep emotional layers. I support the whole you—mind, body, and nervous system.

  • Real-World Experience: With 17+ years in the field, I’ve seen it all—from colicky babies to NICU recoveries to surrogate families. My expertise is rooted in real-life care.

  • Practical + Emotional Support: This isn’t just pep talks. We work together to create daily rhythms, address sleep, feeding, and relationship dynamics—while also tending to your mental health and identity.

Who I Work With

  • First-time moms feeling overwhelmed or underprepared

  • Experienced moms navigating a harder postpartum season

  • Parents through surrogacy who need tailored support

  • Moms with postpartum anxiety or depression

  • Families who want newborn education and emotional care combined

What You Can Expect

In my 12-week coaching container, you’ll receive:

  • Two private sessions a week (30–45 min)

  • Voxer (voice note) access for in-between support

  • A space to feel heard, guided, and truly held

You don’t have to do this alone. And you don’t have to wait until you’re struggling to ask for help.
